Tourism in Canada

Canada’s tourism industry is made up of almost 190,000 mostly small and medium-sized enterprises, operating in communities large and small, in every province and territory, and in eight key sectors: accommodations; transportation; festivals and events; attractions; food and beverage (hospitality) services; tourism services; travel trade (retailers and wholesalers); and travel media. They are involved in getting travellers into and around the country, and providing them with a wide range of products, experiences and services during their visit.

To meet traveller needs, tourism businesses employ 615,300 Canadians directly (2004 data); a million more rely on the industry indirectly for their livelihood. In total, tourism keeps 1.6 million Canadians working, from coast to coast to coast. Those jobs provide vital incomes for individuals and families, and are the economic lifeblood of entire communities.
