QC Intermediate Technician – Precast Concrete industry

About this Position
The incumbent reports to the Plant Manager.
Perform and record inspections and tests on product and related materials both pre-production and post production in accordance with established standards.
Ensure product is produced in compliance with CSA/ACI standards, unit drawings and job specifications and company procedures.
Minimize costly errors during production; ensure that product conforms with drawings and specifications and that the finished product is of high quality.
Raw Materials – concrete testing of each different mix type done by using equipment such as temperature, slump, air content and cylinders for transfer seen-day and 28-day strength evaluation – record statistics.
Pre-pour Inspection – Check panel form set-up, hardware type and locations of same within each panel. Verify that the product matches the drawings before concrete is placed.
Post-Pour Inspection – ensure products are manufactured according to drawings after placement of concrete. Inspect finished product for uniformity of colour, texture and other imperfections for repair.
Conduct appropriate tests to minimize waste of materials and use of improper or substandard materials. Prevent rejection of products. By containing these discrepancies within reasonable limits, shutdowns and time lost are reduced.
Approve or reject raw material and manufactured product based on inspections and test results.
Complete testing accurately and maintain records in accordance with established standards and procedures
Work closely with the estimation department on the Quality Control requirements for the upcoming projects and tenders.
Review, analyze and file all concrete testing records, reports, production logs and other documents. Ensure they are in compliance with CSA/CPCI standards.
Prepare and update Quality Documents and forms for the Quality System Manual.
Review and file any external results from suppliers and third-party testing to ensure the material are meeting the project’s requirements. Take appropriate actions if needed
Assist and respond to external audits from various associations and take appropriate actions to when needed.
Assist and participate at daily and weekly production meetings.
Ensure information is set up properly in the Batching Software. Troubleshoot software issues with the supplier when needed.
Maintain good communication with Supervisors and co-workers.
Review tender documents and prepare Quality Control Plan for each project.
Coordinate with third party inspection and services from other companies.
Work closely with external supplier to create, enhance or modify concrete mix design.
Work in accordance the Company’s Health, Safety and Environmental Program Preparing the Request for Information (RFI) to be issued to client(s) prior to tender closing clarifying our company's scope of work with respect to errors or omissions in the Tender Documents.
Where requested by Plant Manager, providing cost information for scope changes.
Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations; as well as, the Company Health and Safety Responsibilities and Accountabilities. Promote company’s safety vision.
Engineering/Drafting Department – co-ordination of information on the drawings.
Production personnel – co-ordination of quality control procedures and schedules.
Customer Representatives – Inspections/audits of product
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Minimum two-year community college diploma course in civil engineering/construction management
Willingness to take training course such as PCI Level 1 and 11, ACI Level 1
Capable of analyzing precast data and information is a must
Precast Concrete Institute – Levels 1 and 11 Certificates
American Concrete Institute Level 1 Certificate
Competencies and Abilities
Ability to read and interpret production shop drawings, familiarity with CSA and ACI standards
Parts taking the longest to learn are the numerous standards/procedures required in the production process.
Capable of analyzing data/information
Capable of reporting test results
Must have documentation skills
Ability to promote process improvement including manufacturing methods, procedure and to support innovation
