Administrative Duties


Maintain hard copies of employee training files.

Create and maintain an electronic database of worker training records.

Schedule training for workers and arrange for payment.

Maintain an online MSDS database.

Ability to take minutes for management, project safety and Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings.

Prepare health and safety related documents for posting at project sites.

Receive, review for completion and file various project safety documents including; health and safety inspections, toolbox safety talks and daily pre-work hazard assessments.

Assist with the development of project safety plans including traffic control plans, ensure accuracy and revise as needed.



Training Related Duties


Assist with the orientation of new employees.

Assist with the development of training materials.

Interpret, communicate and reinforce corporate and project safety requirements to individual workers, work teams and subcontractors.

Assist with the delivery of safety training to workers.



Project Safety Duties


Assist the Health and Safety Coordinator, supervisors and health and safety representatives with project safety inspections.

Complete project safety audits to ensure compliance. Verify corrective actions for identified safety deficiencies have been implemented.



Workplace Safety and Insurance Act Compliance


Complete and submit WSIB Form 7 in accordance with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act.

Ability to use the W.S.I.B. eCompliance system to update and verify subcontractor Clearance Certificate status.



Incident/Accident Record Keeping


Maintain an electronic database of workplace incidents/accidents and the associated details.

Review workplace injury and accident reports for completion and accuracy.

Assists with the collection and analysis of workplace safety incident data and produces reports and statistical information.



Skills and Education


Minimum of one year of experience in the construction sector in an occupational health and safety capacity. Ontario road building sector preferred.

Comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

Knowledge of the I.H.S.A. COR audit program.

Proven ability to compose correspondence including memos, training notices, disciplinary letters etc.

Ability to work autonomously when required.

Able to learn and apply the corporate health and safety program

Excellent written and spoken communication skills.

Experience creating traffic control plans using the Ontario Ministry of Transportation Book 7.

Excellent organizational skills.

Excellent computer skills and a proven ability to use MSWord, Excel, Bluebeam and Adobe Acrobat.

Proven ability to recognize hazards in the construction, industrial and aggregate sectors.

Post secondary education in occupational health and safety is an asset.



Other Requirements


The ability to work shifts is required.

Ability to respond to project locations to investigate incidents outside of normal business hours.

Other duties as assigned.

Valid Ontario driver’s license.
